I’m excited to share with you my new art project, By Word of Nose, launching with A Puppening in Fort Greene Park, Brooklyn.

This FREE, two-hour gathering invites adults to pause, play, and connect through puppetry, sculpture, and imaginative storytelling. The main event centers on bringing a large-scale Nose Tree sculpture to life, with guests animating it through puppetry and co-writing playful mini-scripts — a hands-on, communal celebration of creativity and connection. The afternoon begins with a whimsical nose puppet welcome, as Monique Islam Salas and Carlo Aguilera bring The Ancestral Nose and Nose Guide puppets to life, ushering in the gathering before storyteller Rae De Vine introduces the project in nose form and playfully facilitates the afternppn. The flow then continues with a short and gently silly “nose-first” breath reset led by Hanfei Tu, a third-year Alexander Technique trainee, before the free play begins.

Follow the path into the park and take the path to the left - you will see the tennis courts ahead - continue up the paved path to the left. We will see an unusual cluster of things on the hill to the left of the path, that's us. It is under five minutes from the entrance.

by word of nose workshop

This By Word of Nose workshop brought people together to imagine the nose as a tool for empowerment and connection through narrative making, art and play.

The four session workshop combined artmaking and practical sewing skills for community members to gather - in honoring the nose - and reconnect with their bodies as a source of wisdom, laughter, reflection and expression.

Participants learned hand sewing and sculpting techniques to create their own fabric nose sculptures. The workshop was created and facilitated for a bi-lingual audience (english and spanish) in collaboration with Unlocal, Org. in manhattan, NYC.
