Kat Geng-Caraballo

Visual Artist & Project founder

Kat Geng-Caraballo is a Colombian-American sculptor and project-based artist located in Brooklyn, NY.

Her artwork - whether taking the form of soft sculptures, mixed-media assemblages, glove puppets, video art or community engaged works - explores identity and wellbeing often through cathartic experiences of play.

Her noses have appeared on the big screen and on public tv at BRIC Arts Media (Brooklyn), have been nestled amongst her found object assemblages upon the faces of her soft sculptures at The Bronx Museum of Art (NYC) and at residencies including The Anderson Ranch Arts Center (CO), The Foundation House (CT), BRIC Arts Media (NYC) and Vermont Studio Center (VT) to name a few.

After graduating from Bard College she received her objects training at The Williamstown Art Conservation Center at The Clark Art Institute. She has had solo exhibitions at The Royal Nonesuch Gallery, Counterpulse and Black and White Projects and exhibited her work across the country.

She currently works out of her home studio.

a note from the artist:

I envision sculpture as a catalyst for things not easy to come by: shifts in perspective, empathy, vulnerability and connection. With that in mind, I invite engagement with my work in unexpected ways. Via pulleys and levers participants may communicate through my furrow-browed puppets or traverse an assemblage of inner tubes and gelatin molds as they collectively create a game with no fixed rules or predetermined end. Sometimes my works are quiet contemplations.

In my newest project, By Word of Nose, I bring our most prominent feature front and center as a symbol of belonging, connection, well-being and shared humanity.

I administer Nose Jobs, one-on-one hour long explorations that lead to a hand-stitched nose sculpture created as an ode to the collector’s nose. These nose-centric exchanges – rooted in the question, What story does your nose tell? – inform each bespoke mini-heirloom piece, from the fabric selection to the form.
